Tryout Dates Set for MS SELECT and HS TRAVEL Leagues

Again this spring, McLean Youth Volleyball (MYV) offers Select and Travel programs for girls interested in a more competitive volleyball experience.

  • For grades 6th-8th - Middle School (MS) Select 

  • For grades 9th-12th - High School (HS) Travel


MS Select
The league is ideal for athletes aspiring to play volleyball in high school or at the club level. Friendship requests are honored as long as they allow teams to remain evenly balanced.  PLEASE NOTE: MS Select does not have an equal playing time or minimum playing time requirement.  See the Playing Time Policy page for more details.

To tryout for the MS Select program, do the following:

  • First register for the appropriate 6th grade, 7th grade or 8th grade house leagues

  • Attend one of the following 45 minute first round tryouts. No prior registration is required. Just show up.

    • Monday, March 5 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2

      • Session 1: 7:00pm-7:45pm

      • Session 2: 8:00pm-8:45pm

    • Tuesday, March 6 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2

      • Session 3: 7:00pm-7:45pm

      • Session 4: 8:00pm-8:45pm

    • Wednesday, March 7 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2

      • Session 5: 7:00pm-7:45pm

      • Session 6: 8:00pm-8:45pm

  • If invited to the callback session, attend it on Saturday, March 10 @2:15pm-4:00pm (NEW TIME!) at the McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2 (2:00pm check-in). Attendance is mandatory to be considered for a MS Select team.

  • Girls who do not make a MS Select team are automatically placed on an age-appropriate House league team.

  • MS Select tryouts are OPTIONAL -- this is not a league-wide skills assessment. Registered girls who don't attend tryouts are still in the House league.

HS Travel

MYA Volleyball runs two HS Travel teams that complete in the established Northern Virginia Volleyball Travel program which includes teams from other volleyball program across Fairfax County.

  • 9/10 made up primarily of 9th and 10th grade girls

  • 11/12 made up primarily of 11th and 12th grade girls

Tryout process:

  • For the Spring 2018 season, the HS Travel tryout is Saturday, March 10 @4:15pm-6:00pm (4:00 check-in) at the McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2. ***NEW TIME***

  • If needed, a special make-up session is on Monday, March 12 @7:00pm-8:30pm at the McLean HS Aux/Upper Gym #1. Please send a note to mcleanvb@gmail.com if you can only attend this tryout.

Spring Registration is Now Open!

WELCOME TO MCLEAN YOUTH VOLLEYBALL SPRING 2018 SEASON

The next full McLean Youth Volleyball (MYV) season is SPRING 2018 (March - June) and is dedicated exclusively to girls volleyball.  Last year we had a record turnout of over 620 girls in grades 4 thru 12. We're expecting a similar turnout.

MYV has three programs:

  • "House" is open to all girls in grades 4th-12th regardless of skill and past experience
    • 4th Grade House League
    • 5th Grade House League
    • 6th Grade House League 
    • 7th Grade House League
    • 8th Grade House League
    • 9th-12th Grade House League
  • "MS Select" is open to 6th-8th grade girls looking for a more competitive experience (requires a tryout)
  • "HS Travel" open to 9th-12th grade girls keeping their skills fresh for the next school season (also requires a tryout)

More details on when and where tryouts are held will be announced on this website in February 2017.

Langley HS Wins State Championship!!

Congratulations Langley HS Volleyball:

2017 Virginia Class 6 State Champions!!

The Langley Saxons came from behind in a thrilling 5 set match to beat Frank Cox HS of VA Beach 19-25, 23-25, 25-21, 25-18, 15-1 to win the 2017 Virginia Class 6 State Volleyball Championship.  Congratulations to Coach Shifflett and the whole team on their phenominal season.

With 14 of the 18 girls on the playoff roster having played, refereed and/or coached with McLean Youth Volleyball, you've made the whole McLean volleyball community proud and set a wonderful example for so many young girls and boys learning to play and enjoy the great sport of volleyball.

Congratulations Boys Champions

The fall 2017 MS & ES NoVA Boys Volleyball season was a resounding success with over 160 boys across 17 teams and 25+ volunteer coaches representing  Arlington , Braddock Road (BRYC), Chantilly, and McLean-Vienna (MV)Power.  Everyone deserves congratulations, especially the teams listed below. 

ES League

  • 1st Place: Arlington ES (Campbell)
  • 2nd Place: MVPower ES3 Grey (Racic)
  • 3rd Place: BRYC ES (McLaughlin)

MS League – Gold Bracket (top 6 teams)

  • 1st Place: BRYC MS-Blue (Samuel)
  • 2nd Place: Arlington MS1 (Debok)
  • 3rd Place: MVPower MS3 Black (Dimatulac)

MS League – Silver Bracket (rest of teams)

  • 1st Place: MVPower MS2 Grey (Weigert)
  • 2nd Place: Chantilly MS1 (Jadryev)
  • 3rd Place: MVPower MS4 Green (Miller)

The next season for NoVA Boys Volleyball is fall 2018.  See you there!

MYV Wins HS Travel Championship

MYV's HST-11/12 Team Wins the Spring 2017 NOVA Travel League 

Congratulations to McLean Youth Volleyball High School Travel team HST-11/12 (Hannibal) for winning the championship of the Spring 2017 NOVA Traavel league.  It was a great team effort and everyone was on the top of their game throughout playoffs.  A special thanks to Coach Rich Hannibal for coaching his 8th season of HS Travel and 2nd Championship.

Record Breaking Used Sports Equipment Collection Drive

Way to go MYV/MYA Families!!

On Saturday, April 22, McLean Youth Volleyball (MYV) partnered with the non-profit Leveling the Playing Field to collect used ("slightly loved") sports equipment to donate to disadvantaged youth athletes in Baltimore and Washington DC.

Turnout was phenomenal.  It took 6 minivans loads (no middle seats) to collect the equipment from both Cooper MS and McLean HS.  In fact, Leveling the Playing Field informed us that it was their largest collection EVER!!
